The wooden footbridges in 500 meters

The wooden footbridges located in Jelgava in 500 meters from "Hotel Kārklu muiža" reveal another corner of the Jelgava city's nature for walks - the floodplain meadows of the Svete River. 

The total length of the boardwalks is about 1.6 kilometers and they connect with three gravel paths. In order to ensure the possibility of moving along the boardwalks even during floods, they are built at a height of 1.5 m, the width of the boardwalks is 1.8 m. For the safety of pedestrians, wooden footbridges are equipped with handrails in which a special mesh is installed. On the other hand, in order to promote the diversity of flora, meanders or wetlands have been created in the floodplain meadows on an area of 1.2 hectares, in which various plants have been planted, such as the fragrant kalme, the common reed and the willow vijmietins. Two information stands have been installed on the boardwalk platforms, which provide information about the meadows of the Svete floodplain, the flora and fauna found there, the peculiarities of the spring meadows. Boardwalks are meant for peaceful walks and observing nature. Three wooden environmental objects are placed near the footbridges - "Jelgava 755" (Jelgava technical school students), a wooden bench and a sculpture with lovers made of wood (O. Krauze). The objects were created during the Forest Days event "Forest enters Jelgava 2020".

The rulers of several neighboring countries have been here both as guests and as conquerors - Peter I, Louis XVIII, Charles XII, Gustavus Adolphus, Alexander I, Wilhelm II, as well as other famous people in world history - musicians Schumann, Wagner, Rubinstein, the famous card player Cavallo , summoner of spirits Cagliostro, "heartbreaker" Casanova, etc. Jelgava is the birthplace of the popular Latvian rock group "Prāta Vētra" - all members of the group grew up here and spent their school years here. Forests Nature Park Tērvete in 30,2 km

The Latvia's State Forests Nature Park in Tērvete is one of the most popular and family-friendly places in Latvia. The total area of it is about 1200 ha, one third of which is occupied by the Fairytale World, located in 30,2 km from Hotel Kārklu muiža.

Since 2000, when the park has been managed by the JSC “Latvia's State Forests”, large infrastructure improvement works have been carried out. We can safely say that it would require at least three hours to visit the park.   

The literary contribution of Anna Brigadere, one of the most famous Latvian writers, a bright playwright and a poet, can be felt throughout the territory of the park. Therefore, the traditional part of the park is named the land of Sprīdītis  – the main character of  Anna Brigadere's fairy tale “The Tale of Sprīdītis”. Here you will find the wooden sculptures depicting the fairy-tale characters from the works written by the writer Anna Brigadere: Sprīdītis and the giant Lutausis, the Forest King and his court, little Annele with her friends, as well as “alive” fairy-tale characters. If you want to take a great photo from Tērvete, you know – Lutausis and Sprīdītis can be found on the left bank of the Tērvete River, up the stairs from the Amusement Square. The Latvia's State Forests Nature Park in Tērvete includes several thematic sections.In the Dwarf Forest you can walk around the Dwarf Village with small wooden houses and thematic yards, the Dwarf Town “Cones” with bright houses and cobbled streets, climb the big wooden watch tower and meet the dwarves of Tērvete in the Dwarf Yard. The trails here are suitable for wheelchair users and parents with prams.

Rundāle Palace in 37,8 km

The ensemble of Rundāle Palace with a French garden is one of the most outstanding Baroque and Rococo architectural monuments in Latvia, built as the summer residence of the Duke of Kurzeme, Ernst Johan Byron,  located in 37,8 km from Hotel Kārklu muiža.

Rundāle Castle was built in two stages (1736–1740 and 1764–1768) according to the project of the Russian court architect Francesco Rastrelli. Most of the interiors were created between 1765 and 1768, when sculptor Johann Michael Graf and painters Francesco Martini and Carlo Zucchi worked in the palace. Unique examples of Rastrelli's early style also survive. The interior of the museum reflects the appearance of the palace in the second half of the 18th century, thematic exhibitions are also on display. The French-style garden was created at the same time as the construction of the palace (1736–1740) and restored, preserving Rastrelli's original plan. It has all the elements characteristic of a baroque garden: the ornamental parterre, the Green Theater, bosquets, pergolas, pavilions. Cultivated rose garden (about 2200 varieties), plantings of ornamental trees and flowers. Rundāle Castle ensemble occupies 85 hectares.

Ķemeru National Park in 43,9 km

Ķemeru National Park was founded in 1997 with the aim of preserving the values of nature, cultural history and resort science, promoting non-depleting economic activity, tourism and environmental education. The area of the national park is 38,165 ha,  located in 43,9 km from Hotel Kārklu muiža.

Kemeri National Park is a wetland park.
